I’m not sure how long this has been public knowledge, but I checked the US Snowboarding major events schedule for the 2012-13 season today. One event immediately jumped off the page to me. Sun Valley will host snowboard cross, halfpipe and slopestyle from March 17 to 22 as part of the 2013 Revolution Tour. A detailed, day-by-day schedule can be viewed here (times subject to change).
The tour, which is in its ninth year, consists of four stops (Sun Valley being the third stop for 2013) and appeals to athletes aged 13 to 19 years old to move up to elite competition. Athletes participating in the tour have the opportunity to qualify for the U.S. Grand Prix, junior Worlds, U.S. Open and USASA Nationals.
It is no surprise that some of today’s Winter Olympians and X Games and Dew Tour medalists got their start in the Revolution Tour. Not every resort has the opportunity to host a Revolution Tour stop, either, as necessary facilities and FIS and USSA approval are a must. I am also curious as to when, if ever, Sun Valley has hosted a Revolution tour stop. I will do some investigating to verify this.
