Hawkins places seventh in heptathlon at US Outdoors
The 2010 Madison grad accumulated 5,785 points

Hawkins, a 2010 Madison High School graduate and five-time All-American at Utah State, is now in her second year as a professional athlete with the Santa Barbara Track Club. She accumulated 5,785 points at the at the outdoor championships, which drew numerous Olympians and world championship medalists.
She finished Saturday in eighth place with 3,515 points through four events. On Sunday, she placed fifth in long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 9 inches to move into sixth place overall and she stayed in sixth place by placing 10th in javelin with a mark of 123-11. She wrapped up the competition with an 11th-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 22.57 seconds.
Kendall Williams from the University of Georgia won the event with 6,564 points while unattached athlete Erica Bougard placed second with 6,557 and ASICS athlete Sharon Day-Monroe took third with 6,421 points. All three qualified for the International Association for Athletics Federations Outdoor Track World Championships scheduled for Aug. 4-13 in London. The heptathlon entry standard for worlds is 6,200 points and the qualification window closes July 23.
