The International Olympic Committee is wrapping up a three-day visit to Sochi this week to check on the town’s preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Transportation and construction are among the items to be monitored.
It was also announced earlier this week that Sochi’s torch relay will be the longest of any Winter Olympics. After reading about the route–even with the expected volunteer turnout–I wonder how in the world it will get done in four months’ time. The relay, which will begin October 2013, will span 40,000 miles in 123 days through 2,900 towns by 14,000 torchbearers. Historic, indeed.
